How to care for your pillow
Our fibre has been treated so that each pillow can be washed or dry cleaned. Natural sunlight is the best way to ensure your bedding stays fresh. Ideally hang them outside on a sunny day. If you can, spread the wool filling on a flat surface in direct sunlight. The natural antimicrobial features of wool, and cleaning nature of the sun, is all this fibre needs for an annual freshen up. You will love the fresh smell when you climb into bed that night. We suggest limiting machine or hand washing where you can, as this can change the nature of the filling over time. Like all pillows, over time the wool will flatten. Which is why we offer additional wool to purchase.
What is the lifespan of an Ava Innes pillow?
An Ava Innes pillow is an investment piece. The fibre we use is strong and long-lasting. However, depending on pillow use, you may need to refill the wool every couple of years. If properly cared for and not accidentally damaged there is no reason this pillow could not last a lifetime.
Why choose wool pillows?
Wool is ideal for bedding. It’s naturally antimicrobial, doesn’t retain moisture or odour, is breathable, hypoallergenic, temperature regulating, and is a regenerative natural fibre. At Ava Innes we believe sleep is the foundation of good health and wellbeing, which is why we only choose the best quality Scottish wool encased in organic cotton for our pillows.
Did you know that wool is a great source of nitrogen for your garden? If you choose to lay your pillow to rest, you can add the wool filing into your compost rather than sending it to landfill.
I have allergies, is your bedding suitable?
Allergies associated with bedding often come from feathers which are more attractive to bed bugs and mites and their faeces. Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and breathable, which means it resists dust mites and mould growth that are common irritants found in synthetic and feather bedding.
Some people are allergic to animal hair and fibres, and therefore should look into this before purchasing. Research has shown that allergies of this kind are as a result of the lanolin or keratin found in animal fibres. All of the fibres we use are through the washing process and lanolin has been removed. Please feel free to contact our team if you have further questions about this.
Are your pillows fire retardant?
Wool is naturally fire-resistant. Wool does not ignite easily, it does not melt or stick to the skin, and in the event of fire it gives off less smoke. Wool is the perfect textile for bedding and interiors. The filing for our pillows have achieved BS 5852: Part 2: 1982 of the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.
