An Oceanic Feeling

An Oceanic Feeling

For World Ocean Day, we reflect on our commitment to sustainability, natural fibres, and business practices rooted in nature.

From the signature 'S' stitching of our duvet, a nod to the flowing water of Scotland. To our name 'Ava', derived from light, water, and our love for the sea. Ava Innes' very DNA is interwoven with the rivers and shores that lap the coastline of Moray. A home that constantly nourishes and inspires us. The home of the world's first sustainable and regenerative cashmere guard duvet.

As passionate natural bedding advocates, we know how little awareness there still is about synthetic bedding, and how the man made fibres used to fill them are detrimental to our health, our homes, and our planet. The cashmere guard and wool fill we use is biodegradable, regenerative and nitrogen rich. Which means unlike plastics, it naturally renews, it breaks down as nature intended, and it gives back to the earth with essential nutrients and minerals.

The beaches of Lossiemouth and Findhorn, both rated excellent for water quality, are the local gems we enjoy wild swimming regularly by Ava Innes HQ.

It’s estimated that 300 million tonnes of plastic are made each year, with 10 million tonnes polluting our oceans. Much of this devastating waste is responsible for up to 80% of marine pollution. Without our oceans, we are nothing. We are a blue planet, with oceans making up over 70% of our surface. 50% of life-giving oxygen comes from the ocean. It drives weather systems, is a key actor in the water cycle (and therefore growing food), and is home to earth’s incredible marine life. Our oceans and seas, part of the great water cycle that sustains life, must be protected from harmful microplastics commonly found in bedding, and the devastating pollution that harms thriving ecosystems and the fine balance of our environments.

When we strive for the peace that comes from an oceanic feeling, we strive to be at one with our beautiful world — a world that needs our care and protection like never before. Our promise is to always champion, invest, and protect the precious natural resources that sustain life and give back, to both people and planet.
