How to find your perfect pillow
Drift into our perfect pillow guide to discover how to choose the right bed pillow for you. Our luxurious and natural Scottish wool pillows offer support and gentle sleep promoting properties to rest your head on, night after night.
THREE THINGS TO CONSIDER:
FILLING
Wool is the gold standard of bedding fill. It is breathable, bed mite resistant, hypoallergenic, temperature regulating, and completely natural. We choose sumptuous Scottish Cheviot wool for our pillows which is layered using traditional techniques. We then encase each pillow in 100% organic cotton.
SUPPORT LEVEL
Choosing the right pillow support is key to improving sleep quality and maintaining neutral spine alignment. Our firm pillows provide extra height for back sleepers, medium pillows offer support for side and restless sleepers, while soft pillows are ideal for front sleepers, mature sleepers, or those needing gentle neck support.
SIZE
When selecting the right pillow size, it's important to consider both your bed size and personal comfort. Our bed pillows are available in standard, square, and super king sizes, offering options for different sleeping preferences. Larger pillows, like the super king, provide extra comfort and support, while square pillows add a stylish touch.
LAYERED BY HAND IN YORKSHIRE
Handmade in Yorkshire, each pillow has been carefully filled
using a traditional layering process to ensure an even spread
of wool. Layering the wool allows for air to flow freely through
the fibres, and gives the wool a memory response to pressure.
All of our wool is British Wool Traceable Certified, travelling just 200 miles from farm to mill.
Choosing the right level of support
Knowing the right level of support you need can make a world of difference to the quality of your sleep. The ideal sleeping position is to have your back in a neutral spine alignment. When our neck is too elevated from the mattress, it can cause a strain on the neck and back.
ADJUSTABLE TO SUIT YOU
We wanted to design a flexible pillow that our customers can adjust to their own preferences. That’s why our bed pillows come with a zip, allowing you to adjust the wool filling and adjust the pillow layer by layer. It also means you can wash the pillowcase separately to the wool fill.

FAQs
We believe we offer a great product and this is why…
1. Customers approved for a great night’s sleep
Our customers tell us they are sleeping better under our duvets and pillows. The combination of being natural weighted whilst temperature regulating, all helps for a better night’s sleep.
2. The choice of fibre filling.
Our unique layered blend of cashmere guard hair and wool brings a natural gentle warmth to your bed. The fibre is recognised for its moisture wicking qualities, keeping you cool as you sleep.
3. Even coverage
Our duvets are layered so you get an even temperature throughout. The special layered process we use ensures the fibres stay in place year after year. Compared with Feather duvets, feathers are loose and often sink to the bottom of each pocket creating cold spots and ultimately a disturbed night’s sleep.
4. Sustainable credentials
Our duvets are fully biodegradable, as all our ingredients are natural. Cheaper duvets using man-made fibres are often filled with micro fibres (a form of plastic), which can take years to degrade. We use a special certified organic cotton for the outer casing of our duvets and pillows.
5. Allergies
Some people are allergic to feather and down duvets. Feathers have been associated with dust mites and actually it is the faeces that has the strong allergen. Our dry clean fibre does not attract bed bugs and mites..
6. Support UK manufacturing
All our products are made in the UK. Our duvets and pillows are made by a small family business in Yorkshire, while our 100% cashmere is sourced from the best Scottish mills and hand finished in Scotland.
Our fibre has been treated so that the duvets and pillows can be washed or dry cleaned. We do not recommend too much washing as this can change the nature of the filling over time. Natural sunlight is the best way to ensure your bedding stays fresh. Ideally hang outside on a sunny day. You will love the fresh smell when you climb into bed that night.
Wool is naturally biodegradable, taking three months to decompose and give nitrogen back to the soil. Once you no longer require your Ava Innes pillow the fill can be composted and left to naturally restore your soil. This is opposed to synthetic fibres which can take hundreds of years to break down, leaving microplastics and harmful traces in our waterways and soil.
Without exception, all our manufacturing is in the UK. Our unique duvet and pillows are made in Yorkshire in a traditional mill. The cashmere we buy for our accessories range is from Johnstons of Elgin and a local Moray seamstress does all our finishing. We are aware that if we manufactured abroad, we could produce a cheaper product, but at Ava Innes, we believe our customers value a product that supports local manufacturing, and we consider the quality of the product is superior as it is not mass-produced and the Mill and factory are invested in their local economy.
